Micro Hydroelectric Solutions is your complete solution to your own microgrid. We specialize in single structure systems up to small communities – from 20kW up to 200kW total power generation. (That’s enough to supply the needs of 160-200 homes, or a smaller number plus businesses and other facilities.)
In particular, as you may probably tell from our name, we are fans of low-flow / low-head hydropower. That means our systems don’t need big dams or drops in elevation. All we need is a small stream with a moderate drop and/or good rate of water flow. We’re also conscious of the environment: our turbines minimize impact on the waterways and are fish friendly.
We begin with a straightforward survey / assessment which we can do for you remotely. We’ll provide a form and help you fill it out. We may ask for a photo or two of your water source and may have some follow-up questions. With that, we can spec a recommended approach for you and provide an estimate.

We have a number of partners and vendors from whom we obtain the components for your microgrid, such as Tesla’s Powerwall+ or SunPower’s SunVault. Our staff will work with you to select the brands you trust and the specifications you need. And, we facilitate direct payment rather than mark it up to pad the cost. That means you pay us only for our time and services, which may include:
- Microgrid design
- Component sourcing and purchase
- General contracting (for construction of any desired structures, hardscaping to put in the turbines, etc.)
- Installation of components and lines
- Training
- Remote monitoring and maintenance services
